Premium Wood Choices for your Mook Jong

Wing Chun wooden dummies are all custom crafted. We can take your customization to the next level by choosing premium woods for any of the wooden dummy components such as the arms, legs, and body. Some premium wood selections are Mahogany, Oak, Jatoba, and Poplar.

Mahogany is a reddish brown timber of three hardwood species of the genus Swietena. This species is distributed from the Bahamas and Florida Keys all the way to Peru. Mahogany's reddish brown color will darken over time and will display a reddish sheen when polished. Mahogany is very durable and has high work ability. It is a favorable wood to make cabinets, furniture, and musical instruments.

Oak is a tree in the genus Quercus with 600 species. It is native to the Northern Hemisphere and is distributed in the Americas and Asia. It has great strength and hardness. Oak is used to make furniture, flooring, timber frame buildings, and wine barrels.

Jatoba is a specie (that is also known as the Brazilian Cherry because of it's color) of the genus Hymenaea. This specie is distributed from Caribbean to South America. Jatoba is exceptionally strong and stiff. It is used for furniture, flooring, tool handles, and decorative purposes.

Poplar is one of the 35 species of the genus Populus. It is native to the Northern Hemisphere, stretching from North America to Eurasia. Poplar wood is relatively soft so it is mostly used to make paper, crates, cardboard boxes, and veneer.

Mookjong uses a variety of wood types to craft our wooden dummies.
